If we detect an abnormality in your pet's heartbeat or heart rhythm there are occasions where we may recommend further assessment and investigations to be carried out by a cardiologist.
We are pleased to be able to offer this service through Craig Devine BVSc DVC MRCVS of "Borders Veterinary Cardiology Services". Craig is a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Diplomate in Veterinary Cardiology who provides a mobile referral service meaning your pet can be seen in the familiar and convenient surroundings of our Ayr surgery.
Craig Devine offers colour doppler echocardiography which allows him to assess the heart through a 3D detailed moving ultrasound scan of the heart allowing assessment of the heart muscle, valves and major blood vessels. He also offers electrocardiography (ECG) that allows assessment of the electrical activity of the heart and to identify any irregularities of your pet's heartbeat (arrhythmia). With this additional specialist exam together we are able to advise and plan the best treatment for your pet.
There may be some cases, particularly in an emergency, where we still may recommend referring you and your pet to travel to a specialist facility for immediate assessment but having Craig as one of our visiting specialists helps us to offer a complete on-site service to our patients and clients.
